Having Fun On Maui Without Breaking The Bank.
Walk Lahaina. You can get walking tour maps that show and tell of the historic sites in Lahaina. Visit the Banyan tree. It’s the largest Banyan tree in the world covering over an acre. It was planted nearly 140 years ago. Friday night in Lahaina is gallery night and many galleries have some of their featured artists on site.
In the Courthouse at the Banyan Tree you can pick up a map showing all the historic points of interest in Lahaina Town to guide you on your walking tour.
Enjoy the beaches of Maui. All beaches are public. There are many beaches close by with excellent snorkeling, including right out in front of Honua Kai.
See the Sunrise at Mt. Haleakala. You’ll have to get up early because it’s a 2 to 3 hour drive and you’ll want to watch the sunrise at the crater. It’s called the house of the sun because of the way it looks like the sun is sitting in the bowl of the crater. Video is time lapse.
Take the road to Hana. This is an all day trip. It’s a wonderful drive with lots to see and plenty of places to just stop and explore. You’ll see waterfalls and my favorite, Rainbow Eucalyptus trees. Their bark is all colors of the rainbow. The O’heo Gulch is just beyond Hana and is often called the 7 sacred pools. Take lunches with you or there are roadside stands with food. Quite possibly the most scenic drive you will ever take.
GPS based audio guides of the road to Hana are available for both Android phones and tablets as well as Apple iPhone and iPad. Highly recommended.
Go to IAO Needle. It’s a state park and beautiful. It’s about a 1 hour drive from the condo. Very peaceful and lush foliage. Lot’s to see along the way too. Take a picnic lunch with you and walk into the valley.
Go to the Craft Faire on Sundays at the Lahaina Civic Center from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Features artisans from all over Maui with many wonderful displays. Many weekends feature craft fairs under the Banyan Tree in Lahaina Town also.
Visit the Maui Ocean Center (aquarium).
Take a leisurely drive. Go north from the condo up past Kapalua. Just keep driving and see the sights. Sometimes up there we see donkeys. They’ll come right up to you and you can pet them.
